Common questions

How soon will I know?
The urinalysis is run here during your visit, and the doctor goes through the result with you before you leave.
Should I drink a lot of water before I come?
Drink normally. If you empty your bladder right before you arrive it can be hard to give a sample, so it helps to hold on if you can.
When is it more serious?
Pain in your side or back, a fever, shaking chills, or being sick can mean it has reached the kidney. Come in the same day, or go to the emergency room if you feel very unwell.

Go to the emergency room instead if
you have a high fever with shaking chills, severe pain in your back or side, you cannot keep fluids down, or you feel faint. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
