A sports physical exam (also called a camp physical) is a comprehensive check-upperformed by a healthcare professional to determine whether it’s safe for a child or teenager to participate in sports or camp activities. These exams help protect young athletes by identifying any potential health risks before they join a team or program.
Yes. Many states require a physical before allowing children to participate in summer
camps or organized sports. Always check with your school or program administrator for specific requirements. Even if it isn’t mandatory, we strongly recommend an annual sports or camp physical for all active children, in addition to their regular check-ups.
A sports physical is performed by a licensed medical professional to ensure a child can safely take part in physical activities. Schools, sports leagues, or camps may require this exam before enrollment. During the visit, your provider will review your child’s health history and perform a physical exam to check overall fitness and identify any conditions that may need attention.
At the appointment, the provider will:
● Review your child’s medical history (including prior illnesses, injuries, medications,
allergies).
● Ask about athletic experience and family medical history. ● Perform a physical examination that may include:
● Measuring height and weight
● Checking vision
● Listening to the heart and lungs
● Examining the abdomen, joints, and posture
If no concerns are found, your child will be cleared for sports participation.
Most visits last 20–45 minutes, depending on the child’s health history and the length of discussion. A sports physical form or clearance is typically valid for one year from the date of examination.
Sports physicals can be completed at most urgent care centers or primary care clinics.
Yes. Aria Urgent Care offers sports physical exams at all of its clinics, with comfortable, convenient, and modern locations designed to make the visit easy for parents and children.
